SmartLipo™ Laser Body Sculpting
Liposuction procedure is available in San Diego
SmartLipo™ was the first laser-assisted lipolysis system to offer a revolutionary and minimally invasive procedure for the removal of fat. Using a high-powered laser, SmartLipo™ is a new Laser Body Sculpting procedure with less down time and side effects than traditional liposuction.
SmartLipo™ is a precise and safe medical-p=grade laser that works by creating a powerful light beam that is adjusted to a specific frequency range. It uses a carefully calibrated laser to liquefy fat deposits. The laser actually disrupts the fat cells, and the resulting liquid substance is then removed through tiny incisions. The small laser can also seal blood vessels as it zaps fat, so there is less swelling, bleeding and bruising than with traditional liposuction. Research has shown that little, if any, fat is reabsorbed back into the body. The minimal invasiveness of the procedure allows patients to see faster results and to experience fewer complications.
Who’s Getting SmartLipo™
Healthy women and men who exercise regularly and are in the process of getting their shape back but are bothered by fat deposits that have not gone away with diet and exercise are good candidates for FDA-approved SmartLipo™.
How SmartLipo™ Works
The fiber-optic cannula is inserted through a small puncture in the skin usually along creases that conceal the scar. This very small cannula, or tube, approximately 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm in diameter containing a laser fiber is inserted into the fat and under the skin. The laser liquefies the fat cells and this liquid substance is then removed by the surgeon or allowed to drain naturally. The laser energy also interacts with the dermis resulting in the collagen tightening.
Due to the cannula’s small size, SmartLipo™ is minimally-invasive procedure and can be performed under local anesthesia for the patient’s comfort. The laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising and a quicker recovery time than conventional liposuction. Because general anesthesia is unnecessary, the procedure is very safe with only minimal side effects.
The incisions are so small; they close up naturally so there’s no need for stitches.
The length of the procedure is customized for the individual and the time it takes is dependent on the body area(s) being treated. Adding laser and skin tightening procedures adds additional time to the procedure.
What to Expect
Patients may have some bruising or swelling after treatment, but these will fade as healing progresses. Some of the numbing liquid comes out during the procedure, some is absorbed naturally by our body and some may drain from incision site for 24-48 hours. The fluid may be pin k or reddish color but contains little or no blood and more blood is lost during the laboratory blood analysis prior to the procedure than during this procedure.
The average healing time is up to six weeks, but improvement is visible almost immediately and patients are requested to walk and get moving the next day.
It’s often known as a weekend procedure where patients can have the procedure done on a Thursday or Friday and can be back to work Monday or Tuesday.
You may be asked to wear a pressure garment for days or weeks after your treatment to help the skin contract and speed the healing process.
