Ultherapy® is a non-invasive procedure that has the power to tighten the skin of the face and neck using focused ultrasound. Heat from the handheld ultrasound device tightens skin that has become a bit loose and prompts the body to add layers of collagen beneath the hypodermis, which is the deepest layer of skin. At the same time it strengthens the collagen that is already there. This plumps out the skin and leaves it youthful and supple and lessens the look of wrinkles.
The power of Ultherapy® is highlighted by the fact that it is FDA-approved for both lifting and tightening the skin. It is an outpatient treatment and there is no downtime.
Who Is a Candidate for Ultherapy®?
A candidate for Ultherapy® has areas of mild to moderately loose skin on their neck, décolletage, and the upper and lower parts of their face, though some clients have their entire face treated. As with other cosmetic procedures, the patient first has a consultation with our professionals. We will educate them on the Ultherapy® experience, take a medical history, and ask the client what they want from the procedure.
What Is the Ultherapy® Procedure?
The patient’s skin is cleansed, and the places to be treated are marked in a careful grid pattern while the patient lies on a treatment table. Using an imaging system, the skin care specialist uses a transducer on precise areas of skin. They use three heads on the transducer to treat the superficial, middle and deep layers of skin. The treatment lasts about an hour to an hour and a half.
Most patients start to see results in about two to three months after their treatment as their collagen tightens. The improvements last for about 18 months. This treatment only needs to be done once for most patients. This is unlike other non-invasive treatments where the client needs to have several sessions scheduled a few weeks apart for optimal results.
After the Treatment
The client can leave the practitioner’s office directly after the procedure. There may be some redness, swelling and tenderness, but in many patients this goes away overnight. The swelling and redness might be followed some days layer by bruising that comes up from the deepest layers of skin. Any discomfort can be soothed by ice compresses or over-the-counter analgesics.
Can the Treatment Be Repeated?
Fortunately, clients can return for Ultherapy® treatments. Skin care specialists recommend that they have maintenance treatments every one to three years or so.
