How to get radiant, dewy, glowing skin
We’re all looking for that naturally, effortlessly radiant skin but most would agree this consumer market makes it an overwhelming experience with the amount of beauty products and treatments available. The good news is you don’t need every serum on the shelf, you just need to focus on the quality of the products and treatments you are investing in. Being a physician assistant in aesthetic medicine, you might think my skincare lineup is out the door but that’s not the case. I have a more minimalistic approach and it works great for my skin because it is customized to my needs. There are times when more products are needed, depending on skin concerns, but here are some global products and aesthetic treatments that will help any skin type achieve that healthy glow.
Skincare
Cleansing
Washing your face twice a day sounds simple, but you’d be surprised at how many people don’t do it. This is the first step to rejuvenating your skin. It’s important to understand that washing your face and taking your makeup off is NOT the same thing. Often cleansers are not designed to take off makeup, particularly full coverage makeup. This is why you must first use a makeup remover and then follow with a facial cleanser. This ensures you are discarding all impurities from the long day so your skin can get to repairing overnight. My favorite cleanser is the Ultra Foaming Cleanser from Nowak Aesthetics because it’s great for combination skin!
Hydrating
Hydration is KEY for supple skin. In this case I’m talking about both drinking enough water throughout the day and incorporating hydrating skincare products to your daily regimen. Many people think the words hydrate and moisturize are synonymous, but that is not true! A hydrating product will help infuse the skin cells with water while a moisturizer will lock in the moisture and maintain that hydration. HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator by SkinMedica is the perfect example of a hydrating product. It has five different types of hyaluronic acids that help both immediately by plumping the skin, smoothing out fine lines and long term by increasing your own hyaluronic acid production.
Brightening
- Retinols are a must that WILL show results if used every night. Retinols help speed up cellular turnover, meaning that you get a new layer of fresh bright skin faster than you normally would. The outcome is improved texture, pore size, brightness, fine lines, and it even helps with acne. **Make sure to be extra mindful about sun protection when using this product as it can make the skin more sensitive to the sun.
- Antioxidants are arguably one of the hardest workers for the skin. They protect your skin from something called free radicals. Fancy words for harmful molecules found in our everyday environment that are a huge culprit of aging skin. Not only do they fight off free radicals, but they also brighten the skin, provide a more even complexion, and improve fine lines.
Aesthetic treatments
A good skincare regimen is the pillar to healthy, radiant skin but these cosmetic treatments will take your skin to the next level within a matter of days and continue for weeks.
Chemical peels
These treatments use medical grade chemical solutions that are designed to lift pigment, remove sun damage, alleviate acne and scarring, and fight fine lines and wrinkles. It works over a process of seven days, starting with visible peeling at day three and refreshed bright skin by day seven. It is recommended to complete a total of three treatments once a month for best results. The VI peels are one of my personal favorites because it keeps my skin looking at it’s all-time best and, unlike other peels, they’re painless! The first step is booking a consultation so we can help tailor these peels to your specific skin goals.
PRO TIP: Add a peel to your Botox treatment to smooth fine lines and wrinkles while brightening your skin for a youthful glow.
Vampire Facials
While the term Vampire Facial may be on trend for spooky season, what it’s really referring to is a combination of micro-needling with topical platelet-rich-plasma (PRP). Unlike over-the-counter dermal rollers, our MicroPen uses sterile, surgical grade needles with adjustable depth for a customized treatment delivered safely by a licensed practitioner. This unique treatment uses the power of your own growth factors and cytokines to rejuvenate and repair skin. The PRP further encourages renewed collagen and elastin production, as well as increase cellular turnover, resulting in improvement of overall texture, pore size, brightness, acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. Like the chemical peels, we recommend a series of three treatments over the process of three months. Recovery time is minimal with some redness same day of treatment and continued improvement over the next 3-5 days.
