The Benefits of Fractional CO2 Laser

We asked Dr. Nowak about the benefits of Fractional CO2 Laser treatments.

What is a fractional CO2 Laser?

Dr. Nowak:  This is my secret weapon laser for patients who want to see major improvement in a single treatment! This can be done on the face, neck and chest and I love it because I can customize the depth and amount of skin being targeted based on the patient’s desired outcomes.

What is the downtime with the laser?

Dr. Nowak:  The downtime varies on an individual basis, but we are looking at a process of approximately 4-5 days. Initially, each patient will see some degree of puffiness or swelling, particularly around the eyes. Patients will begin to see peeling in the first few days but don’t worry, our aestheticians have developed an incredible post facial and skin care regimen that will speed up your recovery. This time of the year, where we don’t get as much sun exposure, is the perfect time for this procedure!

What is this laser for and what can we expect?

Dr. Nowak:  This laser is going to allow us to do a combination of things. One, it’s going to brighten, clean and freshen the skin so we are going to see improvement in pigmentation and texture. We are also going to see a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. We are not going to use the word gone, but it will certainly reduce and improve them.

Some of these changes will be seen rather quickly but we will also have collagen stimulation that goes on for up to six months after a laser treatment. At that point, we have maxed out the benefits from this treatment. There is no doubt we are going to see better looking skin and if the patient is happy, we are happy.”

Who is a Candidate?

Dr. Nowak:  We have lasers for every skin type and concerns. C02 laser is for anyone who is looking to rejuvenate their skin is a candidate. I have all my patients prep their skin with medical-grade skincare for best outcomes. Of course, I also have them continue this skin regimen after their procedure to maintain their results.

How does it compare to other lasers?

Dr. Nowak:  Let’s make this simple. There are light lasers and more aggressive lasers. The fractional CO2 stands closer to the aggressive side of the spectrum. What this means is, in order to achieve fractional CO2-like results, you will need a series of light laser treatments such as the Clear and Brilliant. The lighter the laser, the more sessions you need but the less downtime you have with each treatment. Our patients always love their results.
