Ultherapy vs. Thermage for Eye Rejuvenation

Due to the delicate and translucent nature of the skin surrounding the eyes, it’s not surprising that the eyes are often the first to give away your real age. Although concealers and retinol eye creams can help rejuvenate the eye area somewhat, dramatic results can only be achieved through minimally-invasive skin tightening treatments like Thermage and Ultherapy.

If you’ve been thinking about reversing the signs of eye aging either through Thermage or Ultherapy but can’t decide which of the two to choose, here’s the lowdown on both treatments.

How Thermage works
Thermage has been around longer than Ultherapy. It uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to tighten and smooth wrinkly skin. A handpiece heats the target area, which stimulates the skin to produce more collagen, a naturally occurring protein that is responsible for firmer and tighter skin. In the past, Thermage has been known to be quite painful due to the snapping sensation when the RF energy is delivered. However, newer iterations of the equipment have made it possible for pain-free eye rejuvenation with Thermage.

The main advantage of Thermage over Ultherapy is that only a single treatment is needed, and its effects can last up to two years.

How Ultherapy works
Ultherapy utilizes ultrasound energy to heat the superficial skin layers and stimulate collagen production at the same time. Many prefer Ultherapy over Thermage because its results are comparable to that of a facelift. Desired outcomes take some time to become apparent.

Which is better for eye rejuvenation?
Although both Ultherapy and Thermage stimulate collagen production to tighten the skin around the eye area, their differences should be considered before deciding between the two. Ultherapy is ideal if the main issue has to do with sagging skin around the eyes, while Thermage does a good job with wrinkles such as crow’s feet. It is also important to note that Ultherapy can only be used in the outer orbital area while Thermage can be used to rejuvenate the appearance in the undereye area.

A thorough assessment by the Nowak Aesthetics team is the best way to determine which of the two minimally invasive treatments is ideal for your eye aging needs. Call us at (619) 420-1840 to schedule a consultation today!
