Ignorance in some cases is bliss. Yet when it comes to skin aging, it’s actually better to know more about the issues you’re dealing with. The more you know how outward aging issues — crow’s feet, sagging jowls, age spots, etc. — happen in the first place, the greater the chances you’ll know what you may need to combat them.
There are three factors that cause the skin to age: biological causes, environmental elements, and mechanical processes.
This factor is genetically determined, like a biological clock ticking. The signs of aging brought about biologically are generally the result of shifts in certain hormones and other messenger chemicals produced in the body. Generally, changes brought about by biological aging cannot be stopped but they can be delayed through food supplementation and preventative cosmetic solutions.
Environmental aging can come from sun exposure, harsh weather, smoke, and pollution. The most common outward signs of environmental aging include the appearance of dark spots, wrinkles, dry skin texture, and uneven skin tone.
Mechanical aging often arises from repeated muscle movements such as when you smile and frown. Although it is impossible to avoid making facial expressions, you can prevent premature appearance of wrinkles and folds by avoiding pursing your lips (this happens when you drink from a straw or smoke), squinting a lot (wear those sunglasses!), and sleeping on your stomach.
